As a full-service EPC, we handle permitting, design, engineering, and installation. Some homeowners try managing installations themselves using local subcontractors, but that can slow things down and add issues to an already complex construction project. With city and utility approvals, most systems will take 3 to 6 months.

Guarantees

We stand behind every system with solid manufacturer warranties and our own service commitment. Most panels we install carry 25-year performance guarantees.

What Solar Panels Should You Use?

When selecting solar panels for your home, you want a combination of efficiency, durability, warranty, and performance in real-world conditions.

  1. Efficiency:
    • Measures how much sunlight is converted into usable electricity
    • Higher efficiency = more power from the same space
    • Look for panels above 20% efficiency for residential installations
  2. Power Output:
    • Measured in watts (e.g. 425W per panel)
    • More watts per panel means fewer panels needed for the same system size
  3. Temperature Coefficient:
    • Indicates how much performance drops in heat
    • A lower number means better performance in hot weather
  4. Degradation Rate:
    • How much output declines each year
    • Quality panels lose less than 0.5% annually, meaning they still produce over 85% of their power after 25 years
  5. Warranty:
    • Strong warranty = strong confidence from the manufacturer
    • Look for 25-year performance and product warranties
  6. Certifications & Testing:
    • Panels should meet IEC and UL certifications and be tested against harsh conditions (hail, wind, snow, humidity)

What Inverters Should You Use?

Solar inverters convert the electricity produced by your panels (DC) into the kind your home can actually use (AC). They’re usually installed near your electric panel and are a critical part of your system’s performance.

Inverter Types:

  • String Inverters: one central inverter managers a group of panels
  • Microinverters: one inverter per panel, installed underneath each individual panel itself

What to Consider

  • DC-to-AC Ratio (Inverter Load Ratio):
This is the ratio between the total DC wattage of your panels and the AC output capacity of your inverter. A ratio between 1.1 and 1.3 is typical. Going too high can cause clipping (energy loss during peak production). Too low and your system isn’t operating efficiently.

  • Clipping Risk:
If your panels can generate more electricity than the inverter can handle during peak sunlight, the inverter will “clip” the excess. That means lost production. Sometimes a little clipping is acceptable to optimize cost vs performance—but it needs to be intentional.

  • Future Expansion:
If you think you might add panels later, your inverter should be sized to accommodate that, or allow for additional inverters to be added.

  • Compatibility:
Make sure the inverter can handle the voltage and current from your panel layout. Some panels, especially high-efficiency models, need inverters with specific input specs.

At ARC, we handle all this for you during system design. Our engineers ensure your inverter and panels are perfectly matched for long-term performance, and we size your system based on your energy goals and what makes sense for your home.

How can you track the results of your solar production?

We install solar systems that connect directly to user-friendly apps so you can monitor performance in real time. Track how much energy your panels are producing, view your savings, and get alerts if anything needs attention.
